This Is A Conflict Of Interest – In My Opinion

Referring back to the Salt Spring Island COI issue.

Who was the TAG elected Trustee representing when they and another TAG member paid Bob Leary a visit (Bob was also a TAG member, but running as an independent) resulting in Bob withdrawing from the Oct. 2011 By election?

Did this elected TAG Trustee approach Bob Leary because it was best for TAG (their group) or best for the voters?

Bob Leary stated the following:
“I will never forget who I work for, all my fellow citizens of Union Bay,” Leary said.

Bob upset the plans of TAG who had already endorsed Alan Webb as a candidate for the by election.  Bob obviously knew who he would answer to – his fellow citizens of Union Bay.  Bob’s independence must have set off red flags all over TAG.  How could they have someone who wouldn’t put TAG first?  Well TAG wasn’t about to have their plans scrapped so a plan was set in place to look after the problem of “Bob”.

Bob Leary was discouraged because TAG didn’t want anyone opposing their candidate, Alan Webb.  What excuse can an elected Trustee have for playing a part in denying the voters a choice of candidates eager to run for election?  Union Bay still has a problem with individuals unconcerned about their actions.  They are ignorant or unable to perform their duties without conflicts as they assume their powers are limitless.  Just because something is voted on doesn’t mean it’s legal.

One month after the election at the November 2011 UBID Board meeting I asked about the involvement of the Board and this is the response.  http://youtu.be/Vtc1UnulAbg

Then in April 2012 the Chair asked me what was wrong with that? (referring to the TAG Trustee interfering with Bob Leary).  When I said it was screwing with democracy, the Chair declared the conversation over and walked away.  So when I brought the matter up at the January UBID Board meeting,

this is the response I received:  http://youtu.be/8-I_bJE2wp0

TAG became a private club. http://maryreynoldsunionbayblog.blogspot.ca/2012/01/more-good-news.html   http://maryreynoldsunionbayblog.blogspot.ca/2012/02/looks-like-i.html

What’s going on?

Now it’s a race in Union Bay byelection

Longtime Union Bay resident Bob Leary has announced his candidacy for the Union Bay Improvement District board of trustees.
Leary, who does not belong to any local organization, worked “literally in the trenches” for Creston Water Works.
In a news release, he said he has two main concerns: keeping clean water forever for the community, and keeping costs as low as possible.
“I will never forget who I work for, all my fellow citizens of Union Bay,” Leary said.
A special meeting will be held Oct. 19 at the community hall to elect a trustee to complete the remaining six months of a term formerly occupied by Alan de Jersey.
Alan Webb, a semi-retired newcomer to Union Bay and member of the Taxpayers for Accountable Governance group, is the only other declared candidate in the byelection.
